Gasconade River
Float Trip Guide.
The Gasconade is a river of big bends and different-sized days. Start near Buzzard Bluff for an upper-river outing, or head far downstream for the wider water at Rollins Ferry.
Today on the Gasconade River
Eddy reads the gauge, the trend, and the forecast and writes a fresh take a few times a day. Use it as one input alongside your own judgment, the outfitter you’re renting from, and current advisories from the agency that manages your stretch.
Why the Gasconade River is different
The Gasconade has a habit of making a short road trip into a long river story. Its bends fold through the Missouri Ozarks, opening onto bluffs and broad pools before turning back on themselves. For a float, that means scenery, room to settle in, and a very good reason to check river miles rather than the distance between map pins.
Choose a section around the day you want. The upper river can be thinner and more dependent on recent rain; farther downstream, tributaries add water and the channel grows. A single gauge reading cannot summarize that whole journey. The public-access pairs below offer different starting points, with time left for a lunch stop or a cast under a shaded bank.
- Bluffs and long turns give the river a changing view without needing a fast current to keep the day interesting.
