North Fork River
Float Trip Guide.
Cold spring water, wooded banks, and a Blue Spring walk at Hammond make the North Fork a good river to linger around. This is Missouri above Norfork Lake—not the Arkansas tailwater.
Today on the North Fork River
Eddy reads the gauge, the trend, and the forecast and writes a fresh take a few times a day. Use it as one input alongside your own judgment, the outfitter you’re renting from, and current advisories from the agency that manages your stretch.
Why the North Fork River is different
The North Fork’s clear water has a way of making the riverbed look close enough to touch. Springs give this south-central Missouri river much of its character, and the wooded corridor around North Fork Recreation Area adds a good reason to stay a little longer. A float, a spring walk, and a campground evening can all fit into the same weekend.
This is the North Fork of the White River in Missouri, above Norfork Lake. It is not the Norfork tailwater below the Arkansas dam. Keep that distinction in your searches and shuttle arrangements. Within the Missouri river, depth and current still vary by reach; the lower Tecumseh gauge cannot promise what you will find at an upper bridge.
