Caddo River
Float Trip Guide.
Make Glenwood the meeting point, then follow the Caddo through an Ouachita river day of riffles and long pools. Check the actual launch name before borrowing anyone else’s float time.
Today on the Caddo River
Eddy reads the gauge, the trend, and the forecast and writes a fresh take a few times a day. Use it as one input alongside your own judgment, the outfitter you’re renting from, and current advisories from the agency that manages your stretch.
Why the Caddo River is different
The Caddo is a good excuse to make Glenwood the center of a river weekend. Upstream, the water comes through the Ouachita Mountains and the Caddo Gap country; downstream, it works toward DeGray Lake. Between the pools and rockier passages, the day has enough variety to keep you engaged without needing a huge route.
The useful planning question is which part of the Caddo your reservation or map actually describes. A private launch above Glenwood can produce a different distance from Eddy’s public-access route. Get the endpoint names, check the Caddo Gap gauge, and leave time for the stops that made you want to float in the first place.
- The Caddo belongs to the mountains around Norman, Caddo Gap, and Glenwood, rather than the northern Arkansas Ozarks.
