The Caddo River is a clear, spring-fed Ouachita Mountain stream in west-central Arkansas, rising from cold-water springs southeast of Mena (Polk County) and flowing generally west-to-east about 45 miles through Norman and the boulder-strewn novaculite gorge at Caddo Gap, past Glenwood, and on toward Amity before being impounded at DeGray Lake (it is a tributary of the Ouachita River). It is one of Arkansas's most popular family float streams: the classic Caddo Gap-to-Glenwood run (~7.5 mi, Class I-II) mixes fun rock-garden riffles and small rapids with long calm pools. Floaters read levels off the USGS Caddo Gap gauge height in feet; the river floats most of the year but drops low in late summer and can rise fast and dangerously after heavy rain.
